Icarus

How could I tell you, father,
That I wanted to bathe into the sun’s neverending love for all
That I wanted to die in its light a worthier death
Than a thousand warriors deaths?

I could not have known what I wanted
I could not have told you before that fire
Scorched all my other desires for darkness
For the petty life of a commonner unsatisfied with anything he has

I feared not death but living without seeing
The greatness of Helios up close
The mundane from above
The sky from deep inside the sea
